As someone deeply involved in social media and content creation, I’ve spoken with many people who are passionate about getting started but struggle with direction or motivation. Common sentiments I hear include, “I want to create content but can’t seem to start”, “I don’t know what content to create.” and more.
This article explores self-awareness and identifies the obstacles that may hold you back. I’m sharing 8 common reasons why you might not be starting or progressing in social media content creation.
So, if you haven’t started your Content Creation Journey even if you want to… the reason, probably because…
(1) You’re afraid of Judgement
I absolutely get it… I had a few people in mind who I thought might judge or make fun of me when they saw my content. So, what did you do? And what should you do? Read here:
(2) You Think Everyone is already doing it
If I had let that thought get to me, I wouldn’t have left my job, built my confidence, or met others like-minders. Ask yourself, what do you have to lose? Whether you want to try something for fun, for business, or just to express yourself, GO-FOR-IT.
Plan it Strategically, set realistic goals, and push yourself.
(3) You are Camera-Shy
I totally get how fear could stop you be in front of the camera… I’ve felt that way too. It can be intimidating and uncomfortable at first. When I first began showing myself on camera, it took several tries just to say one sentence. Now, even if it’s not perfect, I just go with the flow. Begin with small steps, like recording short videos or practicing in front of a mirror. With time, your confidence will grow.
(4) You Think you don’t have the Right Gadgets
It’s common to worry that you need the best equipment to get started. You don’t need the newest gadgets or a high-end camera to make great content. Use what you have, like your phone or simple editing tools.
Concentrate on how you communicate your key message and your creativity. As you improve, you can slowly upgrade your tools and equipment. Also, here’s UGC Gadget tips for you.
(5) You Suck at Design & Video-editing
Starting out can be tough and it’s easy to be hard on yourself. But with practice, your skills will get better. Don’t worry about making mistakes—use them as learning opportunities. There are many tutorials and resources online to help you improve. Every creator began as a beginner, and you’ll notice your own progress over time. You can get some Video Content Tips here as well.
(6) You don’t have Enough Time or Discipline

(7) You Don’t have Content Idea
It’s common to struggle with content ideas initially, so self/brand discovery is important. Looking for inspiration can be helpful. Before I became a content creator, I was a photographer, and finding different angles for the same subject was sometimes challenging. It’s good to try out a few options while exploring some ideas online.
It’s important to know what you want to communicate and how you want to present it when curating your content. This way, your content has purpose, rather than just being created for the sake of it.
My website is packed with resources and tips for all the content creation ideas you need. Here you go!
(8) You are Lazy
Sorry ahh, common but no one can help you with that one.
